Using this convention, when bidding a minor — bid 1♣. This is an artificial bid, saying nothing about having clubs. This a waiting bid that forces Partner to bid their 4-card major if they have 6+ points.
Strategy: This is a good tactic to play when Opener has both major suits, and is looking for a complementary suit in Partner’s hand. Forcing a response at least gives Opener a chance to respond with their best contact bid.
- If they have 6+ points, – bid 4-card major
- Else, bid 1♦ – bust hand.
